HATE CHRISTMAS, BUT NOT TOO

of Gabriele Ferrero
(unpublished, December 2008)

THINK THEY ARE THE THIRTY DAYS April, but the last ten days of December, the cruelest time of year?
acknowledge the current economic crisis at least the merit of turning off most of the Christmas lights?
Well, then The twelve nightmares of Christmas is the book for you.
Americans John Updike, award-winning author best-seller, and Edward Gorey , illustrator extraordinarily caught, photographed in their drama, some aspects of Christmas, modeled on the ancient pagan cult Christian celebration of the winter solstice, abused and debased by a consumerism that still struggles under the blows of recession. Subjects
hatched from Gorey and Updike are the classic stereotypes of Christmas: Santa Claus, reindeer, the carols and gifts, in short, everything that has transformed this former party in an accumulation of horrors.
Allow me a tip: during the holidays always carry this little book, perhaps in the inside pocket of your coat, at heart. Maybe it will not save you life, stopping the trajectory of a bullet, as sometimes happens in some old western movie, but if the depression would overwhelm Christmas, you could open it and read a nursery rhyme. How, for example, a delicious reindeer " Sockets that cut the roof like / butter knives, trajectory / flight that the most crazy / recall eddies of leaves / dead before the hurricane. / The door leaf infested with ticks / known carriers of disease. "

nightmares of Christmas The twelve (10.5 x 14.7 cm, 32 pp.) Is published by Alet and costs € 8.50.

HISTORY OF WOMEN AND A DOUBLE RUM

I remember it as if it had happened NOT MORE THAN SIXTY YEARS AGO BUT YESTERDAY. I saw them coming toward me in the middle of the road with a steady pace, almost blows. There were two strange-looking types bizarre. The first wore clothes trapper, blouse and fringed leather pants and clutching a bouquet of red roses. Her face was flushed, as if it were burned by the sun. I can not say it was bad, but rather grotesque. The other wore a green coat and had a brown hat pulled down over his head. He also carried a bunch of flowers in his arms, but more than a bouquet, it seemed that they had been harvested quickly in some grass.
It was the latter character who unknowingly attracted the sympathy of my child, perhaps because the stubble that covered his chin reminded me of the coat of a hedgehog, or because, when a sudden gust of wind tore the hat from the skull This seemed to me ludicrously shiny and hairless.
When the man stopped to pick up the hat, the other got in a compelling and quickened his pace.
seemed blind to what was around and I nearly overwhelmed. It was just my quick reflexes that allowed me to avoid them in time.
The other, trailing behind, he tried to recover the lost yards. Panting, mumbled a curse and he nearly stumbled.
The trapper turned to him and, laughing loudly, cried: " Hey, Mister Bluff! Do not scramble too much, you've already lost the race start. When Lucilla we will not take too much to choose the most charming man, that is me! "
" For a thousand Barbacci, Jones! You are deluded. I'll win her heart. "
" And the deluded would be me, eh? When you'll find yourself in front of her, you will be so breathless that he could not even speak, and limit yourself to puff! "
was the exchange of words that convinced me to follow them and see the evolution of the story.
The spat between the two broke off only when you arrive in front of the house of their lover, tried to give a tone. They were silent. Seemed to enter into a tacit non-aggression agreement, postponing the unquestionable opinion of their Lucilla the designation of the winner of that competition surreal.
The bald man knocked. Then, with minor coups, dusted his clothes. The trapper, however, licked with his tongue and his right index finger if passed it on to lisciarsele eyebrows. Concluded that petty toilet, the two remained motionless, like posing for a portrait. While waiting for the object of their desires were to emerge.
a minute passed, then another and another. Silence. Finally, inside the house, he heard a thud followed by a brief commotion. The window opened on the first floor and check the figure of a woman of about forty, a little 'overweight, his hair disheveled. She was wearing a light silk robe.
" Lucilla, light of my eyes, I am, Jones, your big cat! Let me in, my sweet little cat! "purred the trapper's high-pitched voice, mimicking the handing back of a cat and ideally the bouquet of roses.
" Ah! Ah! Ah! Pathetic! "exclaimed Mr. Bluff. The man put a hand on his chest as the companion to want to diminish, he turned to the woman, curiously tenor voice, and exclaimed: "Oh shining Lucilla, incomparable flower, one is still missing in this bouquet, let your humble gardener will seize! "
Lucilla, who until then had witnessed the scene without issuing breath, looked down upon the suitors, with a stern look.
" If not gone away, you will empty a bucket of cold water on me! And seeing as you are sweaty, not a bad cold I will rise no! "he said imperiously.
" Lucilla, my cat ... " purred the trapper.
" gorgeous ... I am, the man in your life ... " mumbled Mister Bluff.
" Here there are no cats or flowers. So, gone, "exclaimed the woman before closing the shutters violently.
The two men looked at him, quizzically.
" But ... but ..." stammered Jones.
" Oh, no! I'm not there. My beard has never been humiliated like this! I demand an explanation, "snapped Mr. Bluff, beginning to knock on the door with force. From inside he felt much
reach a series of steps coming down the stairs. Then the door opened. Jones and Mister Bluff
looked at each other with stunned expressions. Before them, on the doorstep, the giant figure of a man. It was more than two meters high and showed the hairy chest, dressed only as a pair of trousers worn visibly in a hurry.
"I think Madame Lucilla was very clear with you. Personally, I would not say more, because I can explain better hands than with words. I believe that you preferred to close the matter here, gentlemen, rather than around the corner, by men. "
" Be '... in fact, it seems to me that your speech does not make a wrinkle, sir. "said Jones. Then, turning to Mr. Bluff, he added: " And you, what do you say, my friend? "The bearded patriot
gulped and said to the giant," Yeah, I agree that it is appropriate to close this regrettable affair in a civil manner. It just makes my respects to Madame Lucilla. You are a lucky man! "
That said, Jones and Mister Bluff turned away and went off on the sly.
As soon as they had turned the corner, the two looked at each other in the face and exploded with laughter. Looking at them now, unaware of the auction they had shown towards each other just before, they seemed inseparable friends, so you count the slaps on the back that is trimmed all the time.
Suddenly, broken rice, Jones looked seriously at his friend. "Dear Mister Bluff, I must congratulate you! "he said, extending his hand. Then, when the other shook it, he added: "You've got some words of fact ... It just makes my respects to Madame Lucilla. You are a lucky man! Ah! Ah! Ah! "
new roaring laughter followed.
I was about to go away, when I was called by the trapper. " Hey, boy! "he said," What are you looking at? You never saw two men who have had a disappointment in love? "
" No ... I mean, yes ... I mean, I have seen many, but never the two together and for the same woman ... "I managed to answer.
" Ah! Ah! This is really good, son! "added Mr. Bluff. "You look cute . We were just going to drink to forget, or perhaps to celebrate ... but what's the difference? Why do not you join us? We'll give you a lemonade! "
" All right, sir. Thanks! "I said. Then, joking like old pals, we reached the Golden Salamander, the only inn in the country. Just before entering, Mister Bluff went to a horse tied to a fence and, after having stroked vigorously on the mane, gave her the bunch of flowers.
"Un petit cadeau pour vous , madame! "he added ironically. The animal stared at the man el'improbabile bouquet clutched in his hands, then brought his mouth and began to eat.

THE MASSACRE OF GOLDEN STATE

of Gabriele Ferrero
(unpublished, September 2008)

FROM 30 SEPTEMBER 1948 Tex Willer, the intrepid ranger created by Gian Luigi Bonelli and Aurelio Galleppini (aka Galep ), riding in the green prairies of the West fearless, relentlessly chasing outlaws of every race along dusty tracks, filled with pitfalls.
In these sixty years, thousands of readers, both Italian and foreign, have run at least once in one of his comic adventures.
But if, as the protagonist of the longest running comic western our country, Tex not need any introduction, its size is unknown to most fictional character and at least deserves further investigation.
In 1951, the Audace, publisher of the Bonelli family, placing kiosks in the circuit of a volume of eighty pages in pocket size (12 x 17 cm) pins. The Golden massacre, this is its title, is a novel, the fourth and last written by Gian Luigi Bonelli, the only starring Tex Willer. Bonelli's father
writing is vigorous and complex. The long periods that make up its narrative style, never too mundane or rhetorical, lead the reader directly to the heart of events, adding to the charm of the place a description epic.
massacre Golden , enriched with illustrations and cartoons out of the text (partly derived from the comic episodes have already been published) of Galep, is one of those fantasies that stir the nights of many collectors. In February 1977, the ANAF has published a reprint in the last copies are still available at the association. A second edition, this time graphically renewed and enriched by new drawings of Aldo Di Gennaro, was attached to the number 575 Tex, published in September 2008 to celebrate sixty years of the character and the first centenary of the birth of his literary creator. De
massacre Golden there is also a comic book version, entitled Inferno Robber city. Scripted by the same Bonelli and designed by John Ticci , appeared in issues 108 and 109 of the regular series of Tex, published in October and November 1969.

How To Build Roller Blades

IMAGES FESTIVAL 2008

Also this year saw the conclusion of celebrations for the patron saint of Bivona, S. Rosalia. The most important day for the faithful was Sept. 4, when 18.30 was released Vara. The morning after the Mass, the Vara has been removed the niche of the main altar and placed in the middle of the aisle. Then in the early afternoon was decorated with anthurium of Bivona and the statue of her dowry provided the "jewels of silver, the cross and the palm in his right hand, necklace, earrings. The procession, which lasted about three and a half hours has run the traditional route to the top of the country (via Lorenzo Panepinto and Montemaggiore way) to get to Piazza S. Paul, S. Piazza John (but this year with a small deviation from Via Roma and Via Picone), the Batia (the district of St. Clare), Via Roma and Piazza Marconi. Here at 22.00 the closing Mass was celebrated with great participation of the people. At about 23.00 the Vara was accompanied by many faithful to his "home" before being placed in his "room" where it will rest for a whole year. Great credit goes to the carriers that have demonstrated coordination and have thus ensured the safety of the work, avoiding any cracks in the most delicate parts.

express great concern at the conditions of fercolo species in the lower part of the base near the poles, due to the many rifts, and manifest deep disappointment at the way in which the Vara was held during the year (it is never clean, there are nails and wire yarn, wood is completely covered by layers of dust, silver bells are blacks). The fercolo needs urgent repairs and routine work. Many people in the Church have noticed this, complain, condemn, judge but by the end of the party and forget the Vara S. Rosalia. Every year they say the same party: the "Vara should not go out ... is broken, too bad ... but the people want to see the procession in Vara happens if no revolution ... take one more small Vara ...", but no forward an effective proposal and the curtain falls.

THE STORY OF A CULT OF SANTA ROSALIA BIVONA

Santa Rosalia, Virgin hermit, lived in the twelfth century, presence was probably between 1130 and 1170. According to tradition, spent the first years of his youth at the Norman court of Roger II and then became a handmaiden of Queen Margherita, wife of King William I. After leaving the court, first chose the monastic life at some Basilian and Benedictine monasteries, then the life of a hermit in the caves Quisquina, Bivona and at Palermo, where he died on Mount Pellegrino. The cult of St.
Rosalia in Bivona has ancient origins that date back to the mid-fourteenth century. The cult bivonese is based on two traditions: the first, a little known, says the appearance of Santa Rosalia in a man (or a girl or jurors) on a stone, promising to free Bivona fever if it had been built a church in his honor at the same place. The fever subsided and around the stone "miraculous" was the Church which was built outside the walls. It was 1348 or 1375. There is no trace of the stone due to the continuous transformation and restoration of the Church throughout the centuries. The second tradition began in 1624 after Following the revelations and visions of Mary bivonese Roccaforte (1597-1648), tertiary Benedictine, who died in the odor of sanctity. The Servant of God claimed to have had some visions of Santa, who tells his own life. According to tradition the hermitage of Santa after seven years at the cave of Quisquina, having been discovered and disturbed his religious practices by some local residents, he moved further downstream and Bivona precisely because it was in the possession of his father Sinibaldi, Lord of Quisquina and Rose (Rose of the mountain overlooking Bivona). The Santa lived in for five years at Bivona inserted a cave in a forest of oak trees and traversed by a river, the same one that still flows into the ground in front of the church. Of the forest remained only a portion of the strain (or roots) of the oak where the saint used to pray to stop and find shelter in the hollow trunk of that tree. This "sign" of Santuzza is placed near the entrance and was now made visible through an opening clear.

Table precious S. St. Rosalia

This engraving, dating to 1651, reproduces (Hopefully) the board of the church of Santa Rosalia Bivona like Cascini saw Jordan in the '20s when he came to the '600 Bivona documenting the cult of Rosalia in this area. It was a painting by a famous Sicilian painter, Tommaso De Eve, commissioned by the Brotherhood of St. Rosalia in 1494 and placed on the altar until the middle of 600. Depicting the Madonna and Child crowned Santa Rosalia, on the sides and St. Peter and St. Paul. The painting was already gone to the 700 maybe removed from the church because it was in poor condition. Another precious gem stolen from the treasure chest that was Bivona.

March 22, 1625 - 2008: 383 anniversary of the arrival of the relics of St. Rosalia Bivona to

The 22 March 1625, almost eight months after the discovery of the bones of St. Rosalia in the grotto of Monte Pellegrino in Palermo, they came to Bivona, thanks to the Jesuits, some bone fragments kept in a precious reliquary bust in silver, by an unknown silversmith in Palermo. The Chronicles and the testimony of the Jesuit Father Cascini Jordan, who came to Bivona in those days, telling in detail the solemn celebrations that took place to welcome the relics of the Holy Bivona so venerated in many centuries. It should be noted that the procession which accompanied the shrine came from Palermo to the upper part of the country, namely in the Capuchin monastery where there was the access routes to and Palazzo Adriano Palermo. All bivonesi and fraternities gathered close to the Capuchins and the Brotherhood of St. Rosalie brought even the Vara up to the holy Capuchin to worthily receive the relic. Then in a procession to the Church of S. Rosalia for a short stop (the church was under restoration and therefore the relic could not stay in that church for exposure to the faithful) to the Church of S. John the Baptist-who at that time acted as the Mother Church on the current-Piazza S. John (Mon chianu).

The precious relic was stolen in 1982 and never found. In 1989 he was made a new golden reliquary shaped like a monstrance architecture according to a typology which refers all'ostensorio neo-Gothic Church of St. Lucia and St. John's Purgatory Gemini. The new shrine features three figures: the ends Saints Peter and Paul, at the top center of the Sacred Heart of Jesus might have been more appropriate to perform a copy of the stolen silver bust perhaps modeled on that of St. Madrice Stefano Quisquina stolen or otherwise similar to that following the testimonies of the faithful.
